Have you ever felt like you are dry, running on empty? Tired and worn out from life and all its’ heaviness. You are not alone. It is inevitable that we will feel like that some days, but we do not despair, because we know The One who can breathe new life into us and give us new hope and fresh zeal.

This song comes from that place. A place of getting real and honest with God. Sharing with him everything that is in our hearts. As the songwriter sat one day and disclosed all her uncertainties with Jesus, she began asking Him for the words to express how she feels inside. And as she started writing them down, He started telling her how He will renew her strength.

The scriptures tell the story of the “Valley of Dry Bones” so beautifully. In Ezekiel 37, we read that Ezekiel has a vision about a valley that is filled with dry bones. God asks Ezekiel, “Can these dry bones live?” to which Ezekiel, in his finite wisdom replies that only God alone will know. It probably seemed impossible at the time. But God instructs Ezekiel to prophesy to the dry bones and tell them to live! God says he will put tendons, skin and flesh on the bones and breathe new life into them and they will live.

God loves refreshing us. When we invite and welcome Him into the innermost parts of our hearts and minds, he is willing and able to give us new life.

Isaiah 61:3 says: “…to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair”. How comforting to know that we can come to him empty, and he will fill us up, for we know that it is God who works in us both to will and do for His good pleasure.

One of the most powerful worship songs! I must say there was a point, just as the lockdown started, where my heart skipped a beat. I let fear creep in, just for a moment. I became overwhelmed by the whole situation.

I haven’t noticed it at that time, but I kept turning my focus on God, with the wonderful help of all the online resources, but when I think of the song Dry bones, each time I was overwheled…I just started hearing the chorus in my mind: “When you come, come like a flood. When You speak, oh, speak to me, won’t You breathe, new life into these dry bones. Come mighty breath of God!”

And INSTANTLY I would feel the peace and calmness of God washing over me. Filling my heart with comfort. Knowing that God’s got this. He is my Provider. He is my Restorer. He breathes life into every aspect of my life, where I might be lacking, and reveals the areas that needs attention.

Thank you for such a great song, that helps me to keep my focus on God and helps me to turn up the volume of my praise!
