When writing ‘Real Thing’ we were inspired by the steadfast love of God! Deuteronomy 7:9 says ‘Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations’
How real is the love of God! For somebody who has experienced the love of God, it is overwhelming, deep-reaching into the soul and touching the depths of your heart. When we know love for another, we have a tiny glimpse into the love that we can have towards God and an even smaller glimpse into the giant-love He has for us.
Christ’s intercession, love that cannot be taken away
We see that the love of God that is in Christ will never leave us and can never be taken away from us. We see that Jesus is in Heaven interceding on our behalf in Romans 8:31-39. This inspired the one of the main lines in the song where we sing ‘You’re the anchor for my soul’.
In Hebrews verses 6:13 says we have ‘an unbreakable spiritual lifeline (an anchor for our souls), reaching past all appearances right to the very presence of God where Jesus, running on ahead of us, has taken up his permanent post as high priest for us, in the order of Melchizedek.’
His love triumphs over everything, even death. There is power in the love of God, so much that even death can not take it away. In Romans 8: 37 we read ‘For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.’
God’s love is real throughout the trials that we face. He is present in our troubles and His love carries us to victory. No matter what you may have done or been through, never, ever, doubt the love God has for you!
